Job Summary

Provides clinical direction for all aspects of patient care in an acute patient setting. Demonstrates clinical competency utilizing evidence based practices/research in all areas of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and outcomes.  Incorporates knowledge of safety protocols, cost containment and quality improvement throughout the nursing process.  Identifies patient, unit and organizational priorities and incorporates into the nursing process.

Adheres to all compliance and policy and procedure requirements of the organization including, but not limited to:  licensure renewal, assigned training, employee health screenings, time and attendance policy, dress code policy, patient confidentiality, infection control, medication administration.  Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory agency requirements (JCAHO, DHEC).  Provides care within the scope of the SC Nursing Practice Act.

The Behavioral Health RN (BH RN) will provide primary support to the behavioral health population in the Emergency Department.  BH RN staff members may also provide care to lower acuity medical patient that present to the emergency department.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Bachelor's Degree - Nursing

In lieu of the Above Minimum Requirements

In lieu of the BSN requirement above, an Associate's Degree in Nursing may be accepted if the applicant signs, or has signed, a Memorandum of Understanding agreeing to enroll in an accredited BSN or MSN program within one (1) year of their job effective date and obtain a BSN or MSN degree within four (4) years of their job effective date. To remain qualified for this position, incumbents must demonstrate continued enrollment and progress in an accredited nursing program until a BSN or MSN is conferred.
